 Why Should I Be Baptized?

I. Why should I be baptized?

   A. To follow the example set by Jesus.  "Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized." Mark 1:9 (NKJ)

   B. Because Christ commanded it.
Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you." Matthew 28:19, 20

   C. It demonstrates that I really am a believer.
"And many...believed and were baptized." Acts 18:8 (NKJ)  "...we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments." I John 2:3 (NKJ)

II. What is the meaning of baptism?

   A. It illustrates Christ's burial and resurrection.  "buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead." Colossians 2:12 (NKJ)

   B. It illustrates my new life as a Christian.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new." II Corinthians 5:17 (NKJ)  "Therefore, we are buried with Him through baptism into death, the just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. " Romans 6:4 (NKJ)

Where Does The Name 'Crossover' Come From?

From its inception, the Crossover family has experienced many examples of Gods deliverance through various tests and trials.  The leadership established early on that it would be important to identify the Crossover family as a people who had a heart led by God to walk by faith.

This was especially important in light of the current state of the American Evangelical Church at large, which has grown complacent and apathetic in many cases.  With this in mind, we wanted to be clearly identified as a people that would not only walk by faith, but at the key moments when there 'appears' to be no other way, it would be those times that we would collectively step out in faith, knowing that He would be faithful to deliver us.  The Lord has since proved Himself faithful many times.

It was for these reasons that the scriptural account of God's people crossing over the Jordan River in Joshua 3 became a recurring theme in the hearts and minds of the Crossover leadership.  We believe the name identifies us as a people with a heart surrendered to the Lord, willing to obediently trust in Him, and step out in faith, especially in those most difficult moments when we cannot clearly see how He will deliver us.
